Cosplay

Cosplay (short name for Costume Play) is a type of performance in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Most of the time, favorite sources include manga and anime, comic books, video games and films. The important number of people cosplaying as a hobby has made the phenomenon a significant aspect of Japanese popular culture, where cosplay influences street fashion. It also can be seen as a way for cosplayers of escaping the harsh reality of daily life. This series of portraits was shot in one of the greatest Cosplay meeting in Tokyo (around 1000 people). People were shot as they were, without any additional make-up nor style to their present appearance at the moment I asked them to stand in front of the background.
